SideBySide-net 2010: from Düsseldorf around the world

168 choreographers applied, 7 artists from 7 countries were nominated, and around 22.000 viewers from around the world have made their decisions: The audience prices of the 6th international online-dancefestival SideBySide-net go to Laura Keil from Germany (1st prize), Rosane Chamecki, Andrea Lerner and Phil Harder from the USA (2nd prize) and Wilkie Branson from England (3rd prize).

The festival had its grand opening in August 2010, at the times of Tanzmesse NRW in Düsseldorf. All nominated artists, choreographers and producers personally travelled from Brazil, Mexico, USA, England, South Korea, Netherlands and Germany. At the booked out Theaterkantine, they introduced themselves to the audience via live-performances and video-art. Afterwards, they all went to the virtual stage: by showing their videos on www.side-by-side.net, they were able to reach a broadly spread audience, find helpful new contacts, get new engagements and develop new perspectives.

SideBySide-net accounts for tens of thousands viewers per year. In its sixth consecutive year, the festival is quite well known in the dance scene as an intercultural and interdisplinary platform that brings together talented artists from different areas - and that helps to promote dance and its artists successfully. The festival's enduring success is not at last due to the continuous and constructive cooperation with partners and sponsors. SideBySide-net 2010 was supported by the state-chancellery of North Rhine-Westphalia and the foundation for arts and culture of Stadtsparkasse Düsseldorf.
